NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Volunteers are opening their hearts – and their wallets – to anyone impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
And they’ve done it in such a short period of time, as TV 10-55′s Alex Denis reports.

Help is arriving in the hardest hit parts of Long Island in the most grass roots ways, as folks are handing out sandwiches, socks and underwear.
In the Rockaways, volunteers were cooking hot meals and a makeshift supermarket sprang up in a parking lot, filled with donations from churches and synagogues.
