Police: 2 Children Dead In Separate Incidents In NYC

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating after two young children died in separate incidents in New York City.

The first happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when police were called to an apartment at the Boulevard Houses on Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn.

When they arrived, they found 4-year-old Halii McCord unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

She was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she later died.

Then early Wednesday morning, police were called about an emotionally disturbed person inside a home on West 179 Street in the Bronx.

When cops arrived, they found 5-year-old Stewart Espinal unconscious inside the home, police said. He was taken to Saint Barnabus Hospital where he died.

Police said a 47-year-old was also taken to the hospital and later placed into custody. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Medical Examiner will determine the causes of death in both cases.
