Hard at work on his debut album, which is due for release next year, Brett Eldredge recently sat down with CBS Local to fill us in on his new single “Don’t Ya” and what we can expect from his upcoming music video for the song.

The fun, upbeat track tells the story of the games women play on men. While Brett admits guys also have their hand in similar antics, this one is inspired by the ladies.

“I always wanted to write a song about how girls are very good at playing tricks on our minds. I’m sure we probably play tricks on their minds too but they’re way better at it,” he says. “It’s just the little things, just the brush of their hair, that always get us.”

Brett further explained that he wanted to find a way to write a song about this, and “Don’t Ya” is the result.

“It just came out as a really fun song. It’s been getting a great reaction.”

Brett’s in the beginning stages of planning the music video for “Don’t Ya” and is currently searching for his leading lady.

“Usually after you write the song you start seeing stuff for a music video,” he says. “Sometimes when you’re writing it you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m going to write this next line because I can totally see how in this part of the video it would make it really cool.’ ‘Don’t Ya’ just came out as a fun thing. I’m sure it will [have] a pretty girl. If I could find a pretty girl out there, wherever you are.”

Brett’s first music video was for his poignant single “Raymond,” which was inspired by his grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. This time around, filming “Don’t Ya” will be a slightly different vibe.

“That was my serious now I get to make the fun video,” he says. “Making a video for ‘Don’t Ya’ is going to be a lot of fun. I get to draw up the sketch of how it’s going to go. I get to be the director with the director.”

Brett Eldredge’s new single “Don’t Ya” is currently available.
