NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – That’s it.
We’re calling it.
The old, boisterous Jets are officially back.
Antonio Cromartie guaranteed New York “will make the playoffs this year” to the NFL Network on Thursday. When asked about the remarks, head coach Rex Ryan wouldn’t distance himself from his cornerback. Instead, he said the entire team should “feel like that.”
Right on cue Friday, Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson put his own name to a playoff guarantee.
“Yes, we will be playing postseason football this year,” Wilkerson told WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton. “I can back up Antonio Cromartie’s comment.”

The Jets are a long shot at 3-5, but don’t tell them that. The team feels like they “can get the job done,” according to Wilkerson.
“At the end of the day it’s simple, you’ve just gotta believe,” Wilkerson said, borrowing a phrase from the comeback-kid 1973 Mets. “We all believe in each other. We know people get on us in the media and whatnot, but we really just gotta believe in ourselves, and just pray and hope that all the Jets fans just back us up and just believe in us.”
They’ll have to back it up Sunday at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field, a historically loud and tough place for visitors to find success.
Wilkerson said the Jets’ pass rush, disappointing so far this season, will get in the head of Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson.
“I feel like, you know, we’re going to get this guy rattled,” he said. “We’re going basically go there up to Seattle — we know they’re 4-0 at home but we’re not worried about what’s going on over there in Seattle. We can only worry about what the Jets do … we’re going to go in there and pretty much set the tone.”
