NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for a man who choked a woman, forced his way into her apartment and stole money from her in broad daylight in the Bronx.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, the man attacked the 56-year-old woman outside her apartment in the 1900 block of Ryer Avenue in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx, police said.

He approached the woman and choked her as she entered the apartment, forced his way inside, and stole money, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male between the ages of 20 and 25, standing about 6 feet 1 inch tall. He was last seen wearing a maroon- and white-striped sweater with the number 7 printed on the back, a matching knitted hat, and blue sweatpants with a white stripe on the leg, police said.

Police have released surveillance images of the assailant in a hallway near a stairwell.
