Car Fire, SUV Accident Create Major Traffic Problems On NJ Turnpike
CARTERET, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- There were major delays in both directions of the New Jersey Turnpike near Interchange 12 on Wednesday evening.
Around 3:30 p.m., an out-of-control SUV jumped the guardrail and toppled utility poles on the northbound Turnpike, just north of Interchange 12 -- Carteret-Rahway.

A female driver was injured in the crash, police said. A small child was also in the car and was taken away via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, CBS 2's Joe Biermann reported.
Then, a little after 5 p.m., a vehicle fire broke out on the southbound side of the Turnpike, also near Interchange 12 in Woodbridge Township.
Fire crews were able to put out the flames around 5:30 p.m.
Those wanting to avoid the traffic were advised to use Routes 1 and 9 and the Garden State Parkway.
