1,000 Pizzas Coming To Rockaway Beach Courtesy Of New Hampshire Company

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New Hampshire pizza maker will be sending over a wood-fired oven truck and 1,000 frozen pizzas to Sandy-ravaged Rockaway Beach on Saturday.

The Rustic Crust truck will set up shop at the Belle Harbor School and start serving pizzas after 9 a.m.

"I thought it was a great thing to do for the community and the volunteers," said Brad Sterl, CEO of the Pittsfield-based company. "We tried to do something that we could help with and food is one thing we do."

Rustic Crust makes ready-made pizza crusts and all-natural American Flatbread pizzas that are sold at grocery stores nationwide.

The frozen American Flatbread pizzas that are being delivered to the Queens neighborhood will be baked in the company's wood-fired oven truck.

"We have our own oven, so we don't need any electricity or anything like that to bake the pizzas and serve them," Sterl said.

Sandy devastated the Rockaway peninsula when it struck. More than 100 homes were destroyed and most residents are still without power more than two weeks after the storm.
