Gov. Christie Pokes Fun At Himself During Cameo On SNL

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie got in the act Saturday night with a special cameo appearance on "Saturday Night Live."

The late-night comedy show had mocked Christie in recent weeks for his notoriously short temper and brash talk in handling the storm.

SNL also poked fun at Christie for wearing a navy blue fleece as he toured storm-ravaged areas all across the state.

Christie, appearing on the "Weekend Update" segment, used himself as a punchline and showcased his sense of humor.

"I'd like to thank the Red Cross and first responders. I'd also like to give a special thanks to my lovely wife Mary Pat Christie, who's here tonight, who put up with a husband who has smelled like a wet fleece for the past three weeks," Christie joked. "It's basically fused to my skin at this point...I'm gonna die in this fleece."

Christie continued more of his tough talk, this time aimed at reporters who covered the storm from the front lines.

"I also do not want to thank the reporters that put themselves in danger by walking into the middle of the hurricane with their cameras. We don't need you to tell us there's a hurricane, we have windows," he joked.

Christie also took a swipe at state officials who ignored his evacuation orders, calling them "idiots."

The governor, a self-professed Bruce Springsteen superfan, closed out his appearance by reciting some of the lyrics from Springsteen's song "Atlantic City."
