Skateboarder Struck, Killed By Truck On Union Square West

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday continued to investigate a midday accident in which a skateboarder was struck and killed by a delivery truck alongside Union Square Park.

Police responded around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday after the 20-year-old Long Island man riding his skateboard south on Union Square West lost control and fell, and was then struck by a 2004 Mitsubishi delivery box truck also headed south on Union Square West.

The skateboarder was identified as Kyle Larson, of the 100 block of Eakins Road in Manhasset.

The driver of the truck, a 35-year-old man, remained on the scene, and the skateboarder was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said no criminality was suspected, but the investigation continued. Police did not indicate whether the truck driver was given any tickets.

Police have released surveillance video of the accident scene.
