Sree Tips: Best Apps For Black Friday Shopping

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Black Friday now starts on Thursday night. So, it can be even more confusing as to where and how to get the best deals. Smartphones and some new-fangled apps can help.

Sree Sreenivasan, tech expert from our partner network CNET and Columbia University's chief digital officer, has some you should know about.

These smartphone apps can direct you to savings for the exact stores or products you want, and all of them are free.

The first is Shop O'Lot (Android, iPhone).

This is a real-time mobile shopping app, which uses GPS to know when you are in a particular store and offers you deals related just to that store. If the GPS isn't working in a particular location, you can manually "check-in" to the store to get the latest coupons and deals.

Next is one actually called Black Friday App (Android, iPhone).

This app is from the folks who bring you dealnews.com, widely considered one of the best deals websites. It lets you browse "leaked" and "confirmed" ads from dozens of retailers. You can also spend part of the Thursday football game creating a shopping list for use in the store.

Then there is TGI Black Friday (Android, iPhone).

This app has many of the features of the Black Friday App, but also offers downloadable ad scans for those of you who don't trust mobile coupons, plus the ability to easily share deals you find on Facebook and Twitter. That way, your family and friends can't say you didn't think of them this holiday season!
