Thanksgiving Dinners, Turkeys Being Delivered To Hard-Hit Storm Areas In NY, NJ

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Thousands of Thanksgiving dinners are being delivered to hard-hit storm communities throughout New Jersey and the New York City area on Wednesday.

In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said more than 3,000 dinners and 900 turkeys are being delivered by the National Guard to parts of New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley.

Cuomo said gravy, canned vegetables, pies, bread and other food items were donated by Costco, Delta, ShopRite and Wal-Mart.

"This Thanksgiving, we wanted to ensure that New Yorkers impacted by the storm can still celebrate the holiday with their loved ones," Cuomo said in a statement. "I thank our corporate partners for their continuing assistance which will provide the invaluable comfort of a Thanksgiving dinner to thousands of New Yorkers."

First responders are being treated to lunch in Breezy Point, Queens. They'll be greeted by the governor and actor Steve Buscemi.

In New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie and his cabinet members will be packaging and distributing meals Wednesday at Lowe's stores, most of them in areas that sustained flooding.

Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, are handing out food at a Lowes store in Toms River.

The food is being provided by Boston Market. Each store will have about 500 meals for distribution.

Several Lowe's stores in New York are also participating in the event.
