"Thanksgiving is a good time to give back," said volunteer Brian as he scooped yams into aluminum containers.

Even NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly put on a hat and joined the production line.

"I was dishing out the chopped vegetables," Kelly said. "I try to come here every year, it's a terrific operation."

Roughly 3,400 meals will be delivered to people who are too sick to leave their homes.

The organization started delivering meals to HIV and AIDS patients in the 1980s. But today, they feed patients with all kinds of serious illnesses like cancer and Parkinson's disease.

Even though Superstorm Sandy wiped out their kitchen, the organization is giving out not one, but two meals this holiday.

Meals are being delivered to all five boroughs and parts of New Jersey.
