"It was horrible. We couldn't get a hold of O&R. There were no updates or anything and we were just sitting in the dark waiting," one woman said of the storm experience.

Following in the footsteps of NotifyNYC, Clarkstown has a new more thorough emergency alert system. It's called Ready Clarkstown.

Within minutes, they can blast out tens of thousands of e-mails, text messages, and calls to your home and cell phone.

But Police Lt. Steve Morgan says you have to register at the town website.

"Your cell phone, multiple cell phones, your business phone. Your home phone is already in the system. We need to get your mobile phone information," he said.
