Sources: Noise Sparked Deadly Shooting In Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One man is dead and his brother is fighting for his life after law enforcement sources said they were shot in their Staten Island apartment for being too noisy.

The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. Friday in a six-unit apartment building at 73 Bodine Street in Port Richmond, police said.

A 20-year-old man was found shot in the back. He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

"He's the innocent one," neighbor Joe Vega said of the victim. "The quiet one, the one that don't bother nobody."

The victim's 21-year-old brother was shot in the stomach and is listed in critical condition at RUMC.

Neighbors said the men, who lived on the first floor, loved to drink and party, but don't recall anyone ever complaining about the noise, 1010 WINS' Steve Sandberg reported.

The shooting shocked many residents of the apartment building.

"It's very petty," one neighbor said. "A human life is worth more than that."

Police said the suspected shooter had been visiting someone in the building.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
