Report: Yankees Make One-Year, $12M Offer To Youkilis
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- "YOUUUUK!"
Could it be? Yankees fans may find themselves chanting for one-time nemesis Kevin Youkilis this season -- or at least for the team to finally fill their hole at third base.
The former Boston Red Sox star has received a one-year, $12 million offer from New York, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Youkilis, who was traded to the Chicago White Sox in June, is one of the few options remaining at third with Alex Rodriguez expected to miss a good portion of 2013 with a tear in his left hip.
The Yankees are "trying hard" for Youkilis, WFAN and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reported.
"Could happen," Heyman tweeted. "Indians have (also) been trying."
The corner infielder, who will turn 34 on March 15, hit a career-low .235 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs in 122 games last season.
Fill-in third baseman Eric Chavez won't be returning to the Yankees, instead agreeing to a one-year deal with Arizona on Wednesday. Jeff Keppinger, another New York target, came off the board when he settled on a deal with the White Sox.
Mark Reynolds is also in the hot-corner mix. His agent met with the Yankees on Wednesday, WFAN's Sweeny Murti reported.
A younger option, the 29-year-old Reynolds hit .221 with 23 home runs and 69 RBIs for Baltimore in 2012.
"There's not a lot of choices out there," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said earlier this week from baseball's Winter Meetings. "It's a very limited sandbox to play in."
