What Not To Buy When Shopping For The Man In Your Life This Holiday Season

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Before you make a holiday shopping list this year, you may want to think about what not to buy, especially when it comes to the men in your life.

Personal shopper Rebecca Frey told CBS 2's Emily Smith on Monday that when it comes to shopping for a guy it's important to know what they like, and what they don't like.

"They don't want a fancy blazer, they want comfy t-shirts. Things that they are used to wearing," she explained.

Experts also recommend against buying him something that is really just a gift for you.

"Don't get them tickets to an event you want to see, a ballet, a musical, an opera," Frey said.

If a tie catches your eye for your special guy, be careful when you make your selection. Enrique Crame III, owner of Fine And Dandy on West 49th Street suggests a solid color; something with a busy pattern may wind up sitting in the back of his closet.

Gil Charleston told CBS 2 that he would like to unwrap some electronics this year.

"I'd probably use it all the time and love you a little more," he said.

If you haven't started shopping yet, Macy's may be able to help. The store will be open at 7 a.m. from Dec. 21-23 for a special sales marathon.
