"When I got reconnected to the world and I saw what happened, I was like 'Oh my God,'" said Una Theresa Gormley of Orange County.

So, she went to volunteer in the Rockaways and decided she needed to do something bigger.

"There's about 1,500 children in that immediate area," she told WCBS 880 reporter Alex Silverman.

She wants to give a holiday gift, a toy, to every single one of them, at an event she's putting together for this weekend.

"A lady out in Queens, her daughter died last year. She's actually buying 100 toys in memory of her daughter," Gormley said.

Gormley says she and the other organizers have no doubt they'll get 700 more toys by Saturday.

"To put a smile on a family's face, a mom, a dad, see that through all this devastation, that their child is happy at least through the holidays," she said.
