UConn Men's, Women's Basketball Teams To Honor Newtown Victims This Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -  The University of Connecticut men's and women's basketball teams will honor the victims of the Newtown, Conn., shooting massacre this week.

On Monday night at the XL Center in Hartford, there will be a pregame remembrance prior to the UConn men's basketball game against Maryland Eastern Shore. Then, on Wednesday night, another pregame remembrance will take place before the women's team takes on Oakland. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the remembrances are set to take place at 6:50 p.m.

Both UConn teams will wear green and white patches on their jerseys in honor of those who were tragically killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The background of the patches are green and the letters "SH" are in white. Green and white are the school colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Other UConn staff members will also be wearing the ribbons.

On Friday night, a moment of silence was held in honor of the victims at the XL Center prior to the Connecticut Whale game.

On Sunday, NFL players throughout the league paid tribute to those lost in the tragic incident.
