Last-Minute Shoppers Find Some 'It' Gifts Sold Out In Stores And Online

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -+- Last-minute shoppers have less than a week to get Christmas gifts for everyone on their lists.

Shoppers and retailers are noticing some sold out toys and other gifts in high demand this year.

Some of the "it" items on this year's wish lists include the Furby. It was the top toy in 1998 and is now back on all of the mega toy store's top ten sales lists, CBS 2's Emily Smith reported.

The Doc McStuffins doll, based on a Disney show, is also hard to come by in many stores.

Retailers are also reporting strong sales of the Leap Pad 2.

Lego Mine Craft was sold out at one Target and was being sold for more than double the retail price on eBay, Smith reported.

One mother said a gift not even on the top toys list is increasingly difficult to find.

"All sold out of it. The $22 fortune cookie maker," mother Beth McMillan told CBS 2's Smith. "I went online. I went to four different Walmarts."

McMillan's daughter, Grace, said she has some backups on her wish list, just in case her mom can't find the fortune cookie maker.

"I have more things on my list if I don't get that stuff," Grace told Smith.

Some toys for adults are also flying off the shelves this holiday season.

"I have a Kindle and I want the new backlit one called Paperwhite and it's sold out, it's so frustrating," shopper Marjorie Stern told CBS 2's Smith.

Rebecca Frey, who owns the personal shopping service Seek, said she is not surprised that the eReader is hard to find in stores.

"The Kindle Fire is one of the top sellers for this year," Frey told Smith.

Frey said the iPad Mini is also a hot seller this season.

"At the Apple store online, they are one week to ship which means they probably arrive after Christmas," she said.

There are five shopping days until Christmas and some online retailers still guarantee delivery by Christmas.
