NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A 72-year-old man was killed Wednesday, after he drove through a fence and slammed into a tree in Staten Island.

Around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to Erastina and Orinoco places in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten Island. They learned that the man was trying to back out of his driveway when he struck the fence across from 81 Erastina Pl.

Afterward, he sped north on Erastina Place and went through another fence, and finally struck the tree.
