Woman Charged After Butt Enhancement Causes Serious Infection

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens woman has been charged with assault for giving a woman a buttocks enhancement that led to a serious infection, police said Wednesday.

On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 3, the 40-year-old woman went to the home of Liliana Coello, at 42-29 157th St. in the East Flushing section of Queens, for what police called "injections to improve her appearance." The New York Daily News described the victim as a nightclub worker from Brooklyn.

The woman was seeking an enhancement to her buttocks, and Coello gave her a silicone injection, the Daily News reported.

Several days later, the woman suffered a serious infection, police said.

The Daily News reported she came to Coello's office three times to complain, and ended up going to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment. She complained to the city Department of Health, which in turn contacted police, the Daily News reported.

It was not clear whether Coello used the wrong type of silicone in the enhancement procedure, or if the needle on the syringe was unsanitary, the Daily News reported.

Coello, 39, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, unauthorized practice of a profession, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Coello's practice is not licensed, and the NYPD believes there are other victims.
