Police: Arrest Made In Violent PATH Station Robbery

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An arrest has been made in connection with the attempted robbery of a New Jersey woman earlier this year, Port Authority Police announced Thursday.

James Drexie, 41, of New York City is suspected of attacking the 37-year-old woman in the 9th Street PATH station shortly before midnight on Oct. 1, police said.

During the incident, police said Drexie tried to rip the victim's iPhone from her hand.

"The woman resisted and maintained control of her cell phone," Port Authority Police Chief of Department John Ryan said. "The suspect then punched the victim, knocking her to the ground and then fled the station."

Ryan said high-quality surveillance images of the suspect that were released to surrounding police departments and the media led to the identification of the suspect.

"This arrest was the result of the cooperation of the victim and the continued efforts of the Port Authority Detective Unit," Ryan added.
