NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — The Saturday before Christmas, known as Super Saturday, is said to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year. For shoppers in Herald square, the hunt for last-minute deals was serious business.
“I didn’t finish my shopping so you’re under stress everyday,” Dominique Beaulieu told CBS 2′s Dave Carlin.
Beaulieu is among the 73-percent of shoppers who still aren’t done making holiday purchases. Merchants have been rolling out deep discounts to take advantage of the last-minute rush.
Close to 22,000 shopping bags were counted coming out of stores on 34th Street, Sixth Ave, Seventh Ave, and Broadway on Saturday, according to counters from the 34th Street Partnership.
The Partnership also surveyed over seven hundred shoppers about their holiday spending, forty-one percent said that they spent more than they did in 2011.
