NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Police are investigating the stabbing of a 9-year-old boy in Newark.

The little boy was rushed to University Hospital, which is directly across the street from the high-rise.

There is a security guard in the lobby of the high-rise building and four security cameras survey the perimeter of the complex, 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer reported.

But residents said they still don't feel safe in their community.

"I just don't hang out in the street at night," one tenant told 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer.

One tenant told police that the little boy was bleeding from the neck when she looked out her window and saw him lying on the ground, Lehpamer reported.

"Sad situation. It's bad, it's really bad," another resident said.

So far, police have not established a motive and do not have any suspects in the stabbing.

Police are trying to determine if there is a link between this stabbing and a second stabbing incident that occurred in Newark over the weekend.

A woman's naked body was found with a stab wound on Newton Street, just blocks away from where the boy was attacked. No conclusions have been drawn yet but the incidents do not appear to be random attacks, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
