NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A 9-year-old boy remains hospitalized with serious head injuries after he was hit by a livery cab in Brooklyn Saturday morning.

Joseph Williams was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition after he was hit but was moved to Long Island Jewish Medical Center on Sunday.

Police said the boy and his grandfather crossed Eastern Parkway at Utica Avenue against the light while heading to church just before 9 a.m. when the boy was hit by a westbound livery cab.

A witness told the New York Post that the 9-year-old was knocked out of his shoes and thrown over the car.

Williams suffered severe head trauma in the collision, according to police.

The 44-year-old driver is not expected to face charges, police said.

Officials are investigating the accident.
