Gun Control Advocates Join Hands Across The Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) _ Advocates for new measures to curb gun violence after the deadly Connecticut school attack have assembled on both sides of the Brooklyn Bridge to send a picturesque message to legislators.

Attorney Norman Siegel said the rally Sunday is meant as a symbol of changing attitudes toward gun control. He says those marching single file across the bridge hope to inspire new gun laws after 20 small children and six adults were killed Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Hundreds of people were expected to join the candlelight procession that was to proceed from both ends of the bridge, with everyone meeting in the middle. Siegel says the names of the dead would be read aloud.

In Newtown on Saturday children received an outpouring of support from the local and international community. Tens of thousands of gifts were presented to children at Edmond Town Hall.

The gift giving was not limited to children though, the Newtown General Store received phone calls from around the country offering $2,500 to cover the cost of meals for the community.
