Woman Charged With Abandoning 2 Sick Puppies In Suffolk County

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Suffolk County woman has been charged with dumping two pit bull puppies at an animal hospital, authorities announced Sunday.

Swaneka P.J. Danzler, 21, of Amityville, was charged with dumping the puppies around 1 a.m. Dec. 18 at the Riverhead Animal Hospital.

The puppies were found in a six-foot-deep window well. Both had severe mange and were near death when they were found.

One of the puppies had mange so severe that his skin was peeling off, and had to receive intravenous fluids because he was too weak to eat or drink. That puppy later died, according to the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

When the puppies were found, Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross called the dumping "a blatant act of cruelty and abandonment."
