New Money-Saving App Coaches Users To Negotiate, Lower Monthly Bills

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- The New Year is here -- a good time to start off on the right financial foot.

This is especially true when it comes to negotiating the best deal for things like your phone or credit card bills.

More:  5 Common Money Mistakes - And How To Avoid Them

Financial guru and best selling author, Ramit Sethi, has developed an app designed to make it a whole lot easier to do so -- and save you some serious bucks.

The app, called 'Negotiate It,' provides scripts for users to read as they call up their bank, credit card company, phone service provider or gym. The step by step process guides consumers as they negotiate late fees - or even have them waived.

"Most of the time, they will actually refund your money," Sethi said.

Getting your bill lowered and fees waived is easier than you think, Sethi said. As he explained, the reason most of us are hesitant to have the discussion with those billing us is because it's intimidating.

"It's scary to negotiate and think, 'What if they terminate my contract?'" he said. "The fact is they want you, they want to keep you, and you're worth a lot of money to them."

Give it a shot, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

"They don't hesitate to waive these fees. And that could put a lot of money in your pocket."
