Albany No More: Giants To Hold 2013 Training Camp At The Meadowlands

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Giants will no longer be heading north to prepare for the season.

Big Blue will hold training camp this summer at the Timex Performance Center, their year-round headquarters at the Meadowlands.

It will be the second time in three years that the Giants stay home. They trained in New Jersey in 2011 and won the Super Bowl six months later. New York had trained at the University at Albany in 16 of the last 17 seasons, but the contract with the state school expired. The tenure at Albany was the longest in team history. The Giants have also trained at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J., Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y., and Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J., among others.

"It has been a tremendous experience for our city to have the Giants here," Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings said. "We value our relationship with their organization, and I have told them they are always welcome. This is Giants country, and we wish them nothing but the best."

Dates for 2013 training camp will be announced once the preseason schedule is finalized.

"The University at Albany and the capital region have been great hosts for us during our training camps," Giants President John Mara and Executive Vice President Steve Tisch said in a joint statement. "UAlbany truly has been the summer home of the Giants."

Also on Friday, the Giants signed 13 players to reserve/future contracts, including former Indianapolis quarterback Curtis Painter, who started eight games for the Colts in 2011. Painter, a sixth-round draft choice in 2009, completed 140 of 271 passes for 1,624 yards, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions in three seasons with the Colts.

He signed with Baltimore last offseason, but was released after throwing for 400 yards and six touchdowns in the preseason.
