New York Parole Officer Admits Possessing Child Porn

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A senior state parole official in charge of officers who supervise paroled sex offenders has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

Newsday reported that James Leone faces up to 10 years in prison.

Leone was arrested in September at his Bethpage home. He resigned this week from his $88,256-a-year position.

A federal complaint said Leone possessed lurid images of children being abused by adults in various sexual acts.

Leone had been a parole officer since 1994. He worked in the Long Island office since 2005, supervising parole officers overseeing sex offenders.

Leone apologized for his actions during his Friday court appearance. He remains free on $500,000 bond until his sentencing on April 12.

Prosecutors say Leone is confined to home detention with electronic monitoring until then.
