Jersey City Gun Buyback Program Nets 164 Weapons
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jersey City authorities said they collected dozens of weapons during a weekend gun buyback program.
Among the 164 weapons collected during Saturday's event at a city church were 93 handguns, 27 shotguns and 44 rifles.
People who turned in their firearms received $100 for rifles and $150 for handguns and automatic weapons.
Funding for the buyback program came from private and corporate donors, as well as the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office forfeiture funds.
Authorities said all the weapons obtained through the program will be destroyed.
