NEW YORK (WLNY) – The awards season is shifting into high gear.

Oscar host Seth McFarlane and actress Emma Stone announced the nominees for the 85th Annual Academy Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Thursday morning.

CinemaBlend.com’s Katey Rich offered us instant analysis of the Oscar nominations as they were announced.

Steven Spielberg’s Civil War epic “Lincoln” led with 12 nominations, including best picture, director and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.

“Lincoln” was one of nine films nominated for best picture. The rest are: “Amour,” Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained’,’ the musical “Les Miserables,” “Life of Pi,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and Kathryn Bigelow’s chronicle of the hunt for Osama bin Laden”Zero Dark Thirty.”

The Oscars will be held Feb. 24.
