Police: Off-Duty Suffolk County Cop Killed In Early Morning Crash
COMMACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty Suffolk County police officer was killed Friday after his car collided with a garbage truck in Commack.
It happened just after 3:30 a.m. near Siracusa Boulevard.
Police said Patrick Curley, 40, was driving westbound on Route 25 in his SUV when he crashed into a Winters Brothers garbage truck that was backing out of a business.
Curley was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the garbage truck, 59-year-old James Jarosch, was not injured, police said.
Off-Duty Suffolk County Cop Killed In Early Morning Crash
Curley was a Second Precinct police officer and a 17-year veteran of the department.
Jarosch was issued summonses for unsafe backing and equipment violation, police said.
