NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man has been charged with the murder of a 51-year-old woman this weekend in the Sheepshead Bay Houses development in southern Brooklyn.

Around 9:20 a.m. Saturday, police found the body of Denise Pannell, 51, lying on the floor in her apartment in the public housing building at 2238 Batchelder St. in Brooklyn. Pannell was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police initially launched a death investigation, but the case was later reclassified as a homicide.

A suspect — Lawrence Wright, 55, of 2985 Avenue X in Brooklyn – has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with Pannell’s death.

Police have not indicated how Pannell was killed, or a motive for the slaying.
