Giants' Chris Snee To Have Hip Surgery After Pro Bowl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Chris Snee battled hip pain through much of the 2012 season.

But it wasn't enough to stop him from starting all 16 games at right guard. As for surgery, he's putting that off until after this month's Pro Bowl.

Snee told Giants.com the chance to spend time in Hawaii with his family was "something I couldn't pass up on."

Besides, the hip "feels fine now."

"It's quieted down," said Snee. "With the experience that I have with my kids, I can put off the surgery for three or four weeks. That's what this life is about. I'm going to go out there; we're going to have something we can remember forever."

The Pro Bowl will be played on Jan. 27, one week before the Super Bowl, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. It was Snee's fourth Pro Bowl selection.

The 31-year-old has a partially torn labrum and "some bone spurs," according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Snee said it was "someone falling onto the back of my leg that did the damage."

"Other than that, I kept myself in great shape and, physically, I felt better than I have in two or three years," he told the team's official website. "That being said, I'm getting older and you can't do the same things you could four or five years ago. If you're looking for the same player I was when I was 26, you're not going to find anyone who ... can do what they could do when they were 26. Do I still think of myself as one of the top guards? Yes, I do."

Snee insisted he'd play next season "If they want me back." The Giants owe him $6.45 million in 2013.

"Right now my mindset is year-to-year," said Snee. "That's all you can focus on. I sat down with my wife after this year and decided if I wanted to do it again. It's a grind. There's a lot that goes into it mentally and physically, but I couldn't see myself walking away just yet."

Snee is married to Kate Coughlin, the daughter of Giants coach Tom Coughlin.
