14-Year-Old Boy Who Died From Flu Mourned In New Jersey

WESTFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- It was a heart-wrenching scene in Westfield, N.J., Sunday night, as a family paid last respects to a 14-year-old boy who they say died after getting the flu.

Hundreds of people gathered for a vigil in honor of high school freshman Mark Hollaway. The teen passed away on Wednesday.

Relatives and friends alike were overcome with emotion.

But Hollaway's mother, Angel Hollaway, fought back tears as she spoke to the crowd about her son.

"He was the best-hearted child ever," Angel Hollaway said, "and I can't even say that came from me. He was born good, and I guess God wanted him back."

Friends have set up a memorial Facebook page for Hollaway, which as of Sunday night had already received over 1,000 likes.
