Benefit For Breezy Point To Be Held In Yonkers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It was one of the communities hardest hit by superstorm Sandy, and now friends of Breezy Point are trying to help out.

A benefit is scheduled for Thursday at the restaurant Xaviars X20 along the Hudson in Yonkers.

"They are always looking to help others. That's the M.O. down there. People are always in the mode of helping other people and now they really need help," benefit organizer Bob Murphy, a Citi Group executive, told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

Murphy spent his summers as a kid in Breezy Point and said the event to benefit the Breezy Point Disaster Relief Fund is his way of giving back.

"It's not getting better fast, but it will get better. It's a great spirit there," Murphy told Haskell.

The benefit will feature food, drinks and a live band. There will also be a raffle.

"It's like giving to a charity but getting a fun night out as well and hearing specifically about what the fund is all about," Murphy told Haskell.

The cost of the ticket is tax-deductible. For more information, click here.
