Tommy John won a total of 288 games during his major league career.
But when most people hear his name it’s in relation to the surgery he had back in 1974 to replace a ligament in his elbow with a tendon from his forearm.
That revolutionary surgery has since been named after the left-handed hurler — ‘Tommy John surgery.’
