NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Multiple reports have indicated that the Jets will attempt — or at least look into — trading Darrelle Revis in the offseason.

Would they really deal their best player?

On Thursday the Jets introduced new general manager John Idzik to the media, and naturally, the topic of New York potentially shipping Revis was broached.

Owner Woody Johnson made a quick statement regarding the matter and then moved on, saying, “I don’t know where that came from.”

He didn’t, however, deny that the team will have talks about moving the cornerback.

When Idzik took to the podium he was predictably asked about the possibility of the Jets trading the four-time Pro Bowler, and he offered a rational response.

“I think it’s way premature to say anything specific,” Idzik said in regard to Revis. “I think it would be presumptuous to say anything on that.”

That didn’t stop the 2009 AFC Defensive Player of the Year from taking to Twitter to address the situation.

“I’m speechless by far but more importantly I feel more upset for the jet nation for having to go through this!!!,” Revis tweeted following the Jets’ news conference. He followed that up by tweeting, “I guess we’ll see how this plays out.”

Revis originally signed a seven-year contract three years ago, but a clause allows him to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season. The language in that contract also does not allow the Jets to tag Revis in any way.

Revis is scheduled to make $6 million next season, including incentives.

The 27-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament early in the 2012 season and missed the remainder of the campaign. In just two games played, he recorded 11 tackles, forced a fumble and had an interception.
