SEAFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Several assault weapons and bullet proof vests were found in the home of a Long Island man who was stopped for a traffic violation Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Jonathan Erler, 29, was arrested after officers found a flintlock rifle and marijuana in his car after he was pulled over on Seamans Neck Road in Seaford around 4:30 p.m., police said.
A subsequent investigation led officers to conduct a search of his home where they recovered six assault weapons, five high-capacity ammunition feeding clips, several Chinese throwing stars, two bullet proof vests, one pound of marijuana, over five ounces of concentrated cannabis and $5,000 cash, police said.
“The amount of illegal weapons was very concerning to us and I’m very happy to get them off the street,” Dep. Inspector Kenneth Lack said.
Erler is charged with criminal possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance and several counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing.
