Police: Squatter Killed In Fire At Vacant Central Islip Home

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Police are investigating a fire that killed a squatter in a vacant home in Central Islip.

A passing motorist called 911 to report the blaze at 23 Sycamore Street just after 5 a.m. Thursday.

Intense fire and smoke conditions prevented firefighters from entering the home, police said.

The body of a man was found in the basement after the fire was extinguished, police said. He has not been identified.

Police said there was no electricity in the home at the time of the fire.

Suffolk County homicide and arson detectives are investigating the fire.
