Sree Tips: Best NYC Apps

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There are hundreds of thousands of apps for your smartphone, but there are some that seem just right for New York.

We wanted to share some of those apps that are made for those of us who live - and work - in the Big Apple.

Sree Sreenivasan, tech expert from our partner network CNET and Columbia University's chief digital officer, was here with apps you should know about.

The first is Type-n-walk ($0.99 - iPhone/Android - http://Type-n-walk.com). It turns on a a camera to help you see where you are going so you don't crash into people or fall down open manholes.

The next is SitOrSquat (free - iPhone/Android - http://www.charmin.com/find-public-restrooms.aspx). As all New Yorkers know, finding a reasonable bathroom to use while you are out and about can seem harder than landing a man on the moon. Restaurateurs are rude and uninviting and many storefronts simply don't have public restrooms at all. This app solves that problem. It delivers an up-to-date list of accessible bathrooms based on your GPS location. It even tells you which ones are open and for how long.

Finally, there is BestParking (free - iPhone/Android - http://www.bestparking.com). It hunts down the cheapest and most convenient parking lots and garages near you.
