Teen Accused Of Carjacking 3 People, Robbing 2 More In New Jersey

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A 16-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile Monday in connection with three carjackings and two armed robberies in Newark and East Orange, N.J.

The boy, whose name has not been issued, was being held Tuesday at the Essex County Youth House. The Essex County Prosecutor's office has filed a petition asking to have him charged as an adult.

The boy was charged with carjacking and possession of a stolen weapon, after he allegedly tried to carjack a Mercedes Benz at South Orange Avenue and South 10th Street in Newark on Wednesday of last week.

He was also charged with carjacking and weapons possession for allegedly carjacking the driver of a Honda Odyssey van on Thursday of last week, in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in Newark, and allegedly carjacking an Acura TL on Richelieu Place

He is further charged with robbery after he allegedly held up a man at gunpoint this past Sunday, at Davenport and North 6th Street and Newark. The teen also allegedly robbed a woman at Central Avenue and South 17th Street in East Orange on Monday.

The investigation was ongoing Tuesday night, and additional suspects were being sought.
