ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Two people have been found dead in a Long Island home and what happened is still a mystery.

Two people were found dead from gunshot wounds in their home on a quiet street in Elmont.

There was a 46-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man. Police are withholding their names, pending family notification.

Neighbors said they were married and had three grown children.

“The mystery. So sad. The wife was very friendly with everybody in the neighborhood. It’s shocking,” a neighbor named Wiletta told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

The initial call to the home came in on Monday evening as a possible gas leak at 171 Sussex Road, but homicide detectives have confirmed there was no gas leak. The investigation is continuing.
