STONY BROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Stony Brook runs on Zamir.

Zamir Miah, the overnight worker at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 25A in Stony Brook, had a personal policy of not accepting tips from students.

An anonymous post on the Stony Brook Compliments Facebook page prompted students to come together to show their appreciation to the man who has gotten them through many long nights.

“The Bengali man working at Dunkin’ Donuts on 25A is by far the nicest and most generous man I’ve ever purchased something from,” the post read. “Every time I order something, he automatically upgrades it or throws in a few extra donuts or muffins and never charges extra for them. He’s always working alone at night but is still extremely friendly. I’ve always wanted to approach him or give him an anonymous note, and I wish there was a way that multiple Stony Brook students can get together and give back to him – because I’m sure he does this for everyone as well, and does it with a smile on his face.”

The post saw a huge response, generating hundreds of likes and dozens of comments.

“He is such a nice guy,” James Richter wrote.

“That man is just awesome,” Benjamin Cheung wrote.

On Friday night, students repaid Zamir’s kindness and surprised him with a $400 tip they raised through the Facebook page along with gifts, 40 cards and messages of thanks.

The store manager matched the tip for a total of $800.
