1 Dead, Many Others Injured After Car And Van Collide In Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was killed and four others were injured Wednesday afternoon when a van slammed into a car in Harlem, sending both vehicles onto the sidewalk and into a pedestrian.

Around 2:15 p.m., a red 2003 Ford Focus was headed south on Broadway, when its driver tried to turn left onto 135th Street. At that point, the Focus was struck by a 2009 Ford E250 van headed north on Broadway, police said.

The vehicles were sent careening onto the northeast corner of 135th Street and Broadway, where they struck a 44-year-old woman on the street.

The front passenger in the Ford Focus – Lisette Ventura, 46 – was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Focus and two infants who had been riding in the back seat were taken to Harlem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The pedestrian was also taken to Harlem Hospital in an unspecified condition.

Police did not indicate whether any charges were filed or citations issued.
