Girl, 3, Dies After Fall From Sixth Floor Window In Woodside

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A 3-year-old girl has died, after falling from a sixth floor window in Woodside, Queens on Sunday afternoon.

The girl, identified as Barua Rusroshi, of 53-01 32nd Ave. in Queens, was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital Center, police said.

Earlier reports had indicated that the child was a boy, but police later confirmed she was a girl. She was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m., about five hours after falling from the window.

The girl and several other children were reportedly locked in the bathroom, and when the superintendent came to get them out, everyone but the girl was accounted for. She had fallen to the courtyard below.

Neighbors told 1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten that they were shocked by the accident, and for parents it hit close to home.

"I got a girl that age and one, one year old. I hope everything is well," said Lacey.

Many neighbors are wondering why there were no protective bars on the window.

"There are supposed to be bars. I heard it was through a bathroom window. So, yeah you are supposed to have bars on the window," Lacey added.

The incident is believed to be an accident, police do not expect to press any charges.
