DA: Brooklyn Rabbi Charged In Sex Sting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Brooklyn rabbi is accused of trying to lure an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl to meet for sex.

Nathan David Rabinowich was arrested Wednesday after he showed up at a pre-arranged meeting in Queens, prosecutors said.

He's being held pending arraignment on charges of attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act and attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

"It is disturbing that a man who is supposed to be held in high esteem by the community in which he lives would allegedly try to lure a child to meet him for sex," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement. "It is imperative that parents monitor their children's online activities to protect them from the Internet predators that we know are out there looking for victims."

Authorities said the 59-year-old rabbi, who also operates a tour business, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
