2 Suspects Charged With Setting Man On Fire In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two men have been charged with setting a Newark man on fire after he allegedly tried to break into their van earlier this weekend.

Leaver Harper, 33, of Newark, and Deon Mitchell, 43, of Union Township, have been charged with aggravated arson, aggravated assault and robbery, among other counts.

The pair allegedly doused the victim with an unspecified accelerant, and set him on fire, police said.

Further details were not released on the allegations that the victim tried to break into their van.

The victim remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition. Further details on his injuries were not disclosed.
