NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An NYPD sergeant has been busted on child porn charges, and prosecutors said he did a lot more than just watch videos.

As CBS 2’s Jessica Schneider reported, Sgt. Albert Randazzo was released on bond Tuesday afternoon following a hearing in Queens Criminal Court.

He was charged with use of a child in a sexual performance, promoting sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child, police said.

Randazzo, 36, was silent as reporters asked questions on the way out of the courthouse. He has been hit with a slew of charges that he possessed child porn on his home computer, and that he even used Internet chat rooms to instruct an unidentified woman how to perform sex acts with infants and toddlers.

Prosecutors said Randazzo would sit in front of his computer and communicate with the woman via video chat.

Law enforcement as of Tuesday was still investigating who the woman was, or where the alleged child porn took place.

Randazzo’s mother and stepfather were in court, where he was arraigned on 57 different counts involving child porn. They also declined to comment.

If convicted on all charges, Randazzo could face 15 years.

Randazzo is represented by an attorney from the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association.

“Our firm has just received a copy of the charges,” said attorney Anthony DeFiore. “We’re still reviewing them ourselves, and until we do our due diligence it’s inappropriate to comment.”
